Funding

How Texas funds schools

Texas funds districts through the Foundation School Program, combining state aid and local property taxes. It starts from a Basic Allotment per student in average daily attendance — $6,215 for 2025–26 after HB 2 (2025) raised it from $6,160 — then adds weighted allotments for compensatory, bilingual, special-education, career-and-technical and other needs. Property-wealthy districts return excess local revenue to the state through recapture (“Robin Hood”) for redistribution.

District-level per-pupil spending and the local/state/federal revenue split for May ISD are published in the federal school-finance files — see the full-data links below for the current figures.

Accountability

Report card & state results

Texas assigns A–F accountability ratings across Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gaps. Look up May ISD’s ratings through the TEA School and District Accountability portal, which links to the TXschools.gov rating lookup.

Accreditation

Accreditation status

Texas accredits public districts itself: the Texas Education Agency assigns each district an accreditation status (Accredited, Accredited-Warned, Accredited-Probation or Not Accredited-Revoked), separate from any voluntary Cognia accreditation. See the Texas Education Agency for a district’s status.
