Funding

How Kansas funds schools

Kansas funds schools through the Kansas School Equity and Enhancement Act (2017): each district’s weighted enrollment times a BASE aid amount ($5,615 per pupil for 2025–26, indexed to inflation), with eleven weightings (at-risk, special education, bilingual, transportation and more) on top. The formula is set to expire July 1, 2027, with a task force due to recommend a successor by January 2027.

District-level per-pupil spending and the local/state/federal revenue split for Kansas City School District are published in the federal school-finance files — see the full-data links below for the current figures.

Accreditation

Kansas accredits districts through its own state system, KESA (Kansas Education Systems Accreditation), administered by KSDE at the system level — not a private accreditor; the current KESA 2.0 process began in 2024. See the KSDE accreditation portal.
