Funding

How Colorado funds schools

Colorado funds schools through its school-finance “total program” formula. Historically the Public School Finance Act of 1994 multiplied a statewide base per-pupil amount by factors for cost of living, size and at-risk students; the 2024 law HB24-1448 replaces it with a new additive formula (a base of about $8,496 in 2024–25 plus separate factors for at-risk students, English learners, special education, size, cost of living and locale), phasing in from 2025–26 over six years.

District-level per-pupil spending and the local/state/federal revenue split for Akron School District No. R-1 are published in the federal school-finance files — see the full-data links below for the current figures.

Accountability

Colorado rates districts and schools through its District and School Performance Frameworks (DPF/SPF), measuring academic achievement, academic growth and postsecondary and workforce readiness, and assigns each a performance rating.
