Funding

How Alaska funds schools

Alaska funds districts through the Foundation Formula, built on the Base Student Allocation (BSA): each district’s enrollment is adjusted by a school-size factor, a geographic district cost factor and special-needs, intensive-needs and career-and-technical multipliers to produce an “adjusted ADM,” which is multiplied by the BSA. Organized boroughs and city districts make a required local contribution and the state funds the balance. The BSA rose to $6,660 per student for 2025–26 after a $700 increase (HB 57).

District-level per-pupil spending and the local/state/federal revenue split for Lower Yukon School District are published in the federal school-finance files — see the full-data links below for the current figures.
