Education in Malawi
Malawi, in southeastern Africa, runs a British-influenced education system with English as the medium of instruction and Chichewa as the national language (used in early grades). Free primary education, introduced in 1994, dramatically increased enrollment. As one of the world's poorest countries, Malawi faces challenges of large class sizes, teacher shortages, and limited resources.
Structure & stages
The system follows a British-derived structure:

Higher education centers on the University of Malawi, the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), and the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, among others. University places are limited relative to demand.
